Book included with class. "Developing the Mind of Christ for Living in the World" by Corrine Rios.
Description: "Three out of every five Christians (59%) disconnect either permanently or for an extended period of time from church life after age 15.
The reasons?
#1: Churches seem overprotective. "As young Christians, they express the desire for their faith in Christ to connect to the world they live in." Their church experience seems irrelevant.
#2: Teens and Twenty-Somethings experience of Christianity is shallow.
#3: Churches come across as antagonistic to science.
#4: Young Christian's church experience related to sexuality are often simplistic, judgmental.
#5: They wrestle with the exclusive nature of the Christianity.#6: The church feels unfriendly to those who doubt." Barna Group Five Year Study by David Kinnaman
Will that be your child?
My goal will be to make the Bible relevant to our young adults. We will be discussing topics ranging from how to overcome personal spiritual battles (anger, unforgiveness, being unloving, fear, worry, depression) to current issues of the day (abortion, religious persecution/liberty, poverty, sexual identity, Israel, role of government, bioethics, church is politics/government, Islam, and patriotism). All from a Biblical Worldview.
This will NOT be a lecture type of class. There will be homework, there will be the sharing of homework, there will be discussions of our faith from students. Students will learn HOW TO start having the "mind of Christ" in regards to their everyday life. They will also learn how to defend the faith.
Corrine is a mother to five children, has been homeschooling for twenty-three years, has a Master's Degree in Elem Ed., a Biblical Counselor, and author of the Flesh vs. Spirit Bible Study.
