Alan Erisman, author of the upcoming book The
Myth: “If we taught English the way we teach math, students would spend all their time doing spelling tests and diagramming sentences but never read a great book or ever read poetry.”We will use aerodynamics to make poetry out of algebra. This course will cover lift, weight, thrust and drag. Newton’s three laws, atmospherics, and more. We will use spreadsheets to perform our calculations and graph the results. Spreadsheet operations and calculations will be presented.
Students will develop a mathematical model of an airplane and, if desired, they will fly in the aircraft they modeled and verify the model.
If your young adult is interested in aviation this will be a great place to start.
