High School students will participate in various roles to conduct a mock trial.
Students will learn the basics of the judicial system and be divided into teams to compete in a mock trial. The class will choose the case to be tried from a list of mock trial cases used in mock trial competitions across the U.S. Students will play the roles of attorney and witnesses for both sides of the case. A judge and jury of volunteers will judge the final competition (tentatively Friday, March 12, 2027). Please make sure to clear your student's schedule to attend the competition.
Students interested in art and journalism are encouraged to contact the teacher about how they can participate. Courtroom artists will observe the courtroom trial and submit artwork to be judged as part of the courtroom art competition. Journalists will observe the trial and submit an article about the trial to be judged as part of the journalist competition. Students may participate/compete in multiple roles.
