This is a seminar about ideas: ideas that have shaped the modern world. We will explore the relationship between economics and liberty. What is the proper role of government? Was Jesus a socialist? How should we respond to poverty?
Economics is the study of human choice. We will look at how ideas affect our choices of organizing as a society. We will read and compare major economic thinkers and discuss the relevance of their ideas. We will explore basic economic terms and policies that have been implemented and with what results.
This class is reading and discussion oriented for advanced high school students. This is a core class intended to provide 0.5 High School Economics Credits based on 90 hours of coursework. Students will have 3-4 hours of homework per week (one hour for each of four days they are not in class). Homework will be reading and watching videos. There will not be worksheets, graphing or math. Students will be evaluated on: class participation (demonstrating they have read the material); two essays; and one presentation. This is a college-level class that won't be found at any liberal university.
This class should be coupled with US Government in the fall in order to meet high school requirements for government and economics.
For ages 16+ (or 14+ with approved writing sample)

The class will open your eyes to the world. You see how economics and business have created the world we live in. It is vital to understand governments and markets. I highly recommend.
An absolute must. I had so much fun. Every week I felt like the scales had been lifted from my eyes.
