Journalism 101

Let’s create a Newspaper! We will write & publish news related to PLANT,  AHSA, home educators and any other items this team declares “newsworthy.” We will work to get our newspaper up and running while learning lead writing, the inverted pyramid for organizing interviews and news relevancy, AP style & feature writing. 

Working in teams, we will choose an Editor-in-Chief, Assistant Editor-in-Chief, and a Copy Editor. This is a great way to exercise or build leadership skills and looks great on a resume. The paper could be a digital resource, or we may choose to pursue a printed paper with advertising - endless ideas! 

Students should be able to write a paragraph without (a lot) of assistance. Suggested for about 6th grade to high school. There will be homework as student teams will decide in class which stories will be covered, interviews conducted, and drafts of the stories/articles worked on week to week.
