Two books inspire this class offering: A Thomas Jefferson Education for the Twenty-First Century by Oliver Van DeMille and Evaluating Books: What Would Thomas Jefferson Think About This? by Richard J. Maybury. We will be reading classics, discussing them, and writing about them. Expect a lot of reading because it is a great way to become educated and your child CAN do it! Our first book will be Persuasion by Jane Austen. Students will have some say in what books come next. Among their options will be classics such as: David Copperfield, Jane Eyre, Washington’s Farewell Address, Uncle Tom’s Cabin, Great Expectations, Of Courage Undaunted, Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass: An American Slave, The Declaration of Independence.
